Horsepower HP vs. Pferdestärken PS

  • So hp is the french horsepower that is metric system, then Germany had its own horsepower (ps) that is slightly different?! Do you have weaker horses than the french?!
    PS seems like it should not be used in an international context. Keep you weak horses to yourself! ;)

    Nope:
    French horses == German horses
    English horses == 98% of German horses

    All pointless as power should only be measured in KW especially when in contracts or official documents.

    Only KW is part of the metric system.

    Vielleicht ist es in dem Kontext interessant zu wissen, dass die Bezeichnung bhp bzw. Brake horsepower in dem obigen Screenshot eigentlich nicht mehr ganz korrekt ist :!:

    Break horse power oder auch SAE gross horsepower wurde meines Erachtens offiziell bis ca. 1972 verwendet.
    Der Unterschied war hier, dass die Motoren ohne die angeschlossenen Nebenaggregate gemessen wurden und damit bis zu 20% über den realistischen Leistungsabgaben des Motors im eingebauten Zustand lagen. Dies kennen viele User vielleicht noch von den legendären Muscle Cars.

    Ab 1972 einigte man sich auf die Verwendung von SAE net horsepower.

    Wie auch immer, Watt bzw. Kilowatt ist die offizielle physikalische Bezeichnung für die mechanische Leistung.

    Break horse power or also known as SAE gross horse power was officially used until about 1972 I believe.
    The difference here was that the engines were measured without the installed motor aggregates and therefore delivered an performance output up to 20% higher than they delivered under realistic conditions.
    Many users maybe got aware of this from the legendary muscle car era.

    In 1972 it was agreed to use SAE net horsepower instead.

    Watts or kilowatts is the official physical unit for measuring the mechanical power.
